Ray Holmes, the Dornier Do 17 and Victoria Station; the losses of 15 September 1940 (about 60 German aircraft, fewer than 30 British): Wikipedia, "Battle of Britain Day" (after S. Bungay, 2000, and R. Overy, 2001). Holmes's first combat report does not describe a deliberate ramming; that comes from his later accounts. Luftwaffe intelligence under Colonel Josef Schmid and the subtraction of claimed victories from RAF strength: S. Bungay, "The Most Dangerous Enemy" (2000). The "150 to 300 fighters" estimate is given by a single unsigned source: hence "by one account". Hitler's postponement of the invasion on 17 September 1940: Wikipedia, "Operation Sea Lion".

The aircraft on the maps and boards, the pilot and the parachute are drawings, not photographs. Routes and crosses on the maps are schematic. Maps: Natural Earth (public domain). Education only.
